Welcome to Spark Galleries!
Spark Galleries is a specialty shop in Tokyo that features a carefully curated selection of museum-quality Japanese art, antiques, traditional crafts, artisanal home goods and other items you can purchase as a keepsake of your precious time in Japan.
Located in Harajuku, we're known for finding beautiful, unusual Japanese things—not the kind of factory-produced items you'll find at mass-market "souvenir stores." We're here for smart travelers with evolved sensibilities and style; people who know something special when they see it.
We source our products from all over Japan. Most are vintage or antique, but we're always on the lookout for fabulous finds from contemporary artists and artisans too.
Almost everything we stock is handmade and "one-of-a-kind." Our products have a definite Japanese flavor, but are carefully chosen to work with almost any interior style.
Our customers love us, whether they are artists, architects, accountants, academics, attorneys or simply adventurous aesthetes. More than a few of our finds have made their way into the collections of leading museums and private collectors, but we're happiest when our beloved objects find new homes with folks who will treasure them as much as we have.
Our inventory is frequently changing & evolving but our main product lines include:
- 20th century limited-edition Japanese woodblock prints (like you'd find in the collection of MOMA or the British Museum)
- Mid-century modern Japanese sculpture and sculptural objects
- Vintage/antique Japanese hand-crafted artisanal items (wood, bamboo, ceramics, metalware, studio glass)
- Artful Ikebana vases, elegant tea ceremony implements and gorgeous lacquerware (e.g. "jubako" bento boxes).
- Authentic hand-carved antique buddha statuary, "orin" singing bowls, and other beautiful, calming objects
- Spectacular, authentic samurai swords, armor and accessories
We share our space with JapaneseKokeshiDolls.com, so if you are a collector or just curious about kokeshi (amongst the most beloved of Japanese things), please come by and check out their products too!
Some of our products are available online through Etsy. Scroll down to view a partial selection and click through if you want to make a purchase from outside Japan.
We look forward to meeting you in person during your next trip to Japan.
